Strengthening Student Engagement through the 2024 Visiting Professor Program: International Perspectives on Educational Management at Yogyakarta State University

The Department of Educational Administration, Faculty of Education and Psychological Sciences (FIPP), Yogyakarta State University successfully organized a series of lectures and a Studium Generale as part of the implementation of the Enhancing Quality Education for International University Recognition (EQUITY) Project and the 2024 Visiting Professor Inbound Program. The activities were conducted over three days in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Takayoshi Maki, Ph.D. from Hiroshima University.
The program involved undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students of the Educational Management Study Program, as well as lecturers from the Department of Educational Administration and other departments within FIPP. Activities were held in a hybrid format, both onsite at the Muh. Amin Building, 3rd Floor, and online through YouTube live streaming.
The first lecture session took place on Monday, April 29, 2024, from 07:30 to 09:10 with the topic “Research as My Daily Meal.” The session continued from 11:00 to 12:50 with a discussion on “Policy and Evaluation.” Through these sessions, participants gained insights into academic research culture and the importance of policy evaluation in educational management.
On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the second lecture session was conducted from 07:30 to 09:10 under the theme “Schooling in Southeast Asia: A Comparative Perspective.” The lecture explored educational systems and policies across Southeast Asian countries from a comparative viewpoint. The program then continued from 13:00 to 14:50 with the topic “Project Design Methods for Education Leaders,” focusing on strategic project planning and leadership in education.

The final session was held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, in the form of a Studium Generale entitled “Mapping Research in Educational Management: Lessons Learned from Japan.” Conducted from 09:00 to 11:00 in both offline and online modes, the session attracted active participation from students and lecturers across academic levels. The lecture highlighted research trends, policy development, and educational management practices in Japan that could serve as valuable references for academic development in Indonesia.
This Visiting Professor program is expected to strengthen international academic collaboration, broaden global perspectives on educational management policies and practices, enhance participants’ mastery of Educational Management knowledge, and improve research competencies among students and lecturers at Yogyakarta State University.
